I was born and raised in southcentral Pennsylvania, where for mountain bikers, Michaux State Forest has long been a place to cut your teeth, hone your skills, test your mettle. Below are 3 images of a magazine article I wrote many years back for Switchback, which has been dead for a while. If you click the images, they’ll appear larger on your device. You can also adjust your screen size to make the reading easier.
If you’re looking for mountain biking the way it used to be, make your way to Michaux. Riding there will hurt, I promise you. To shed some light on that statement, when riding “Me-Show,” you don’t really talk about miles much. It’s more about a question of: how many hours do you want to ride? As Sue Haywood (remember her?) once said, one mile at Michaux is like 2 miles everywhere else. Chris Eatough (remember him?) once said, if you can ride Michaux, you can ride anywhere in the world.
1980s metal/rock/hair/glam bands? I was a kid of the ‘80s and I still have hundreds of cassettes that were acquired through BMG and Columbia House subscriptions. Remember those?!
And — what was/is your favorite ‘80s metal/rock/hair/glam band or song?!
Michaux on a hardtail in the fall with leaves covering rocks, oh boy that hurt - but I'd gladly go back!
