Cooler days and colder nights are a few months away, but we might start thinking about them now. Autumn is a perfect time for trail fests, assuming the wildfires aren’t still raging and particulate matter isn’t lodging in our lungs while we ride.
Anyway, as they say …
Three Trail Fests here in California that you might consider attending:
Oh, the Sierra Buttes. I got to ride there with friends a ways back and left thinking I’d be back sooner than later. It’s still later. The trails there, with such beautiful lake-country scenery, are my kind of ride: rocks, chunk, some flow, and viewscapes that never disappoint. The local Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is kicking off a brand new 4-day gathering called Mountains to Meadows Trail Fest (Sept 19-22, 2024). Not necessarily a mountain biking festival, this one is about beer and it’s in Kernville, one of my favorite places in the world. Truly. Go for the mountain biking and the river activities, check out the beer gathering. A one day event on October 19, 2024, the Rivernook Beer and Music Festival is sponsored by Kern River Brewing Company. They invite their brewer friends and then have a party by the Kern River: https://www.rivernookcampground.com/event-details/rivernook-beer-music-festival-2024-brewers-invitational
San Diego has mile high mountains less than an hour from the beaches. It’s beautiful up there in October. Somewhere around its 5th year running (I forget, Covid got in the way with the numbers), the SDMBA Mount Laguna Trail Fest is set for October 18-20, 2024. Check it out here: https://www.memberleap.com/Calendar/moreinfo.php?eventid=48288&org_id=SDMB
