Got a kid that’s into BMX? There’s this from her website, which makes me smile/laugh:
Our Single Speed Cogs and Narrow Wide Chainrings Are Great On Dirt Jump Bikes Too
Because who doesn’t like jumps?
Here’s a fun Q&A with Shanna! —
1. Tell us about your rings and cogs. Why are they the best around, says me?!
Hmmm, I think because I'm an extremely small business in the bike industry and I'm woman owned! I don't offer a product for every option but all of my product offerings have been thoughtfully designed and they're all manufactured in Asheville, NC.
2. What does someone need to know about sizing things up for their bike?
For the cogs, folx need to know what freehub body their rear wheel has (my cogs are all for Shimano HG style freehub bodies) and what gearing range/gear ratios other riders in their area are riding. Gearing is different for different terrain, steepness of terrain and length of trails. Wheel size also makes a difference when choosing gearing. Make friends with other singlespeed riders and ask them for advice. They also need to know if they have a geared or singlespeed freehub body. If it's geared they'll need to pick up a Fibonacci Spacer Kit as well. For chainrings, folx need to know the bolt pattern of their chainring or if it's direct mount, the brand and how the direct mount rings mount. They also need to know whether their bikes are boost or not for those DM rings. At the moment, I only make a DM ring for boost bikes. They also of course want to have their chainring size and color decided...I have 10 color options which I realize can be paralyzing. I just always choose purple. Folx can always reach out to me via email if they have questions. I'm the only one on the other side of those emails so please be patient as it sometimes takes me a day or three to get back to people.
3. Endless Bike Co. -- what's behind the name?
That's a really great question that unfortunately has been lost to history but it makes for a really good logo...the Endless e!
4. You're in Western NC, a beautiful place to mountain bike. Favorite trails and why?
Oh goodness! This is a toughy as there are so many! My favorite trail no longer exists but I really like the current iteration of Black Mountain trail because I can ride it from bottom to top and back again right out my front door. It just keeps getting more and more technical as mother nature has her way. Brevard, NC gets 67" of rain per year on average. The beauty and curse of living in a temperate rainforest. Car free days are the best days. I also really love Trace, Spencer, Spencer, Trace. Some folx think that's crazy but I love the challenge of climbing technical single track and I just get bored to tears on gravel!
5. Local breweries you'd recommend? Any particular beers? Why?
Well I'm a Pale Ale or IPA kinda gal and at 125# I can't really drink anything over 6.5% without making a fool of myself and having a terrible hangover but not due to a lack of tolerance. Basically if the glass is full, it's empty. I'm gonna have to say Oskar Blues Brewery since it's about a 5 minute greenway pedal from my house. I loved the Pinner but they usually have a good lime lager or a sour that's real tasty. It's tough though cause WNC has sooo many good ones! Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale) and Appalachian Mountain Brewing (so many delicious pale ales and IPA's) in Mills River, Ecusta Brewing in Brevard but I can only drink a few of their beers and just two at a time without getting a terrible belly hangover. I usually drink the Lime Agave Ginger's Revenge there. Something about the hops they use. Definitely pay a visit to The Hub and Pisgah Tavern though cause they're at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest and they do bikes and have lots of awesome craft beers on draft and in can options. It's a good local community place also 5 bike minutes from my house!
6. Say what you want ... anything to add ... what's the word?
Thank you so much for thinking of me for this, James and for being a customer! As a woman owned micro business I often get forgotten in the world of bikes, even in my local community so I'm always stoked to be invited to the table. I'm also a PMBIA Level 3 Mountain Bike Skills instructor so if you or any of your subscribers are ever in my area and looking to improve your mountain bike skills, I would love to be your gal!
