Mt. Shasta Downhill Fun
Shasta Gravity Adventures, Local Husband/Wife Owners
I went to Mt. Shasta and met up with Chris of Shasta Gravity Adventures to get in a little downhill fun when I was visiting Redding. The drive up to the namesake mountain town is an easy one, and well worth it. When Shasta comes into view, it immediately takes over the mindset. My goodness is that a mass of mountain and energy, I thought.
It was my first time there and I kept saying to myself, what took me so long? Cool, crisp summer morning air had me in relaxation mode. I found the shop pretty easily and Chris was there with his easy-going vibe filling the outdoor space. I learned he is one half of the husband/wife (Monique) team that owns the business. Locals. He also educates youth on science/environmental/outdoor education and does so in the indoor and outdoor classroom settings.
We got along from the get-go.
Lots of trail in/on/around Shasta and they are building many more miles of purpose-built mountain biking trails:
We drove up top and then rode down. Chris led the way; I smiled and goofy-grinned it the entire time.
“Wanna take a little detour and get 360 views?”
“Sure, let’s go.”
After the detour with its minimal stretches of ascent, we went down and eventually ended the ride at the shop.
Super fun. Fast. Soooo worth checking and no doubt, I’ll go back when I have more time. Then I’ll make multiple runs and/or pedal away and make it a longer cross-country ride.
Post-ride … I went to the local brewery before heading to Lake Siskiyou for a SUP session.
If you’re in the area of Redding, go north to Mt. Shasta. Connect with Chris and/or Monique. They’ll hook you up with what you need: beta, rentals, skills/classes.
