MTB Redding: Westside Trails
Ditch Your Car and Pedal from Town
Okay, fine, Redding is hot in the summer months. You can still ride earlier in the mornings, or you can simply ride the other 8 months of the year. While other places are snowed in, Redding town will provide you with warm days and lots of singletrack. Oh, and don’t forget about the two other seasons called spring and fall.
On the southwestern side of the small city along the I-5 up high on the California map, there are networks of Redding trails easily found on your preferred trails app. Link ‘em up from downtown and you have a solid couple of hours of riding.
On a cool summer morning, we rolled from town along the Sacramento River and then worked our way in the direction of Canyon Hollow. Highlights of the morning, when all said and done, included Rattlesnake, Top of the World, Sloppy Joe, T Party, among a few other connecting segments of dirt. We used surface streets, as well.
The Salt River Trail was my kind of flavor. It had some chunk. It wasn’t all smooth and flow trail, which made me happy.

For a well-curated beer and wine list experience, there is only one place to go: Westside Tap and Cork. Seriously, do NOT miss this place when you are in Redding. The founder is Cicerone Certified, which basically means they know more about beer than we do:

Next up: Redding’s Swasey Trail System.
