Are you a creature of habit? Me, too. While I enjoy adventures and trying new things, for the most part, I do what I do and I do it over and over again, day after day, which is better known when it all adds up as having a routine. It can be boring, but that’s not the norm, as the feeling of boredom isn’t something I experience all too much. I think of it as a way of living a life and maybe even going as far as having a lifestyle.
My lifestyle includes riding a bike outside on dirt. It’s been that way on what is/looks like a mountain bike for 29 years. As a kid, too, I rode my bike in the woods at the end of the alley, putting that total around 40 years.
As the calendar year ends, I look forward to more of the same, more of what the past 29 years on a bike have given me:
Experiencing natural beauty
Bending low around a turn
Lung-busting climbs
Downhill smiles
Cleaning rock gardens
Post-big ride exhaustion
Out with the old and in with the new, is how some people see the end of the calendar year. Maybe it’s an aging thing, or maybe it’s where I am of late, but I’m not seeing things that way. I’m looking forward to more of the same: Out with the old and in with the old.
I’m not asking for anything new. If I am able to have more of what I’ve already received, I’ll be grateful.
More rides around San Diego county
More contentedness in seeing seasonal changes
More good health
More happiness in seeing others ride
More camaraderie on and off the trail
Less is more. Gimme me a lot less in 2023. If that happens, it’ll be a successful year.
