PRBSoC #11: Sedona Beer Company's IPA and Wren House's Porter
Every time I come here, I think: why did it take me so long to get back? It’s usually a gap of not more than 1.5 years, at most. It never gets old. The red rocks, the pines, the blue sky, the junipers, the ocotillo, the beaver tail cactus …
The tech riding, the rocks, the drops, the use of contour and making lines over rocks and boulders and slabs, the use of rocks to build bridges, the power moves, the need for use of upper body strength, the end of ride feeling of getting worked for a few hours … rocks.
Every time I come here, I have to ride what was called, don’t know if it still is, the West Side Tour. Mescal and that big red wall never, ever gets old. It’s magical. Axis is my “new” way down. 3 times now, maybe a 4th? Fast, fun, some gnar, more fast and fun and then some back country flavor down near Girdner. That is pure mountain biking trail riding perfection.
Cleaned entire stretch of Chuckwagon for first time. Not one dab. Well, had to stop/wait for the hiker crowds at one point, but it was a spot where a foot down would not have happened so I’m counting it!
Sedona Beer Company Uptown. Beach Please! IPA, a West Coast one coming in at only 5%. Bartender gave me the heads up, saying it’s a light one. Yep, it was. Not much IPA dank/citrus in there at all. Move on to their porter, but the keg emptied that afternoon and they put on one from Wren House Brewing. I’m a fan of their beer offerings and said yes to having a pour.
Yes, that is what I want. Colder weather. Dark early evening. Long ride in the legs. I like a roastier porter, but I ain’t complainin’ at all.
