Post Ride Beer Stream of Consciousness
PRBSoC #5: Burgeon Beer Company's Super-Delish New Zealand IPA
Summer Solstice! The longest sunlight day in these parts … the long days of summer … youth … rides bikes to the pool and around town, to baseball games and eventually back home for food.
Am loving the lack of trail traffic. The perks of being able to ride middle of the week. Most people at the beach. It’s a beach town. I like that, too. Been bodysurfing a lot lately. Am actually riding more waves than trails these days.
Wild ocean. Don’t know what’s below you. Bobbing, waiting for a wave … not knowing what will arrive. Catch it or not, pull back, wait, not set up, can’t line it up, no 2 waves the same, despite being the same break. Unpredictable. Love it.
Trails. In time, we get to know them inside and out. Know when to hammer, when to anticipate the rock sitting mid-trail, blind corners, where to pass … all of it over the years maybe becoming a bit mundane. Round and round we go.
Gotta go elsewhere. Ride somewhere new, or somewhere not visited recently. Get away. Fine tune other areas of the skillset. New landscapes.
Waves. Even when it feels right, up the elevator you go and down over the falls, tossin’ and turnin’ …
Trails. Even when it feels right, over the bars you go and down onto the ground, tuckin’ and rollin’ …
Ride in the morning mountain. Ride in the evening ocean.
Yin. Yang. ??? Dunno.
New Zealand IPA? Ugh, that means hops were grown there, basically. NZ hop most famous, perhaps = Nelson Sauvin. I’d argue that the original Alpine brewery is most responsible for putting it on the proverbial USA beer map.
Out now at the new and only true Alpine brewery, Mcilhenney’s just released a new Nelson. I’m gonna get some tomorrow!
