After a big ride, like The Kumeyaay Sky Ride, I rarely want a beer, at least not right away, instead thinking of food, usually craving it before the ride ends. This time of year, soups are on the menu at home all fall and winter long. Done right, a good hearty soup can be a perfect post-ride meal.
Protein, like fatty fish, works well for recovery.
Starchy carbs are also good to have in post-ride soup.
A hearty brothy-base means all kinds of vitamins, minerals, and salts go back into our bodies while slurping it down.
I added Alaskan cod.
What is the soup? When a neighbor offered the tuna head (caught by him here in our local waters), I was inspired by places I’ve lived/worked. It’s a bowl of fish soup that lies somewhere between a sancocho and seafood stews I’ve had in West Africa, Brazil and the Caribe.
Do you consider soup as a recovery meal after big rides? If so, what’s your favorite? Share here, if you don’t mind. Another one of mine is anything chicken and rice based.
Hot sauce, for sure, goes well with almost all soups!
Cheers, everyone!

Looks good. I usually ride in the morning, so soup isn't on my mind. And it gets truly cold here, so I wait for winter. I'll try a ramen or pho. I wish we had a Malaysian restaurant nearby, that served laksa. I'll have to make some.
