FourScore Beer Company in Gettysburg, PA
It’s Trans-Sylvania Epic time. Today is the first day of the week for central PA’s stage race, one that has seen many of the heavy hitters over the years test their skills amidst the east coast rocks. Some of those trails were my undergrad years’ cutting-MTB-teeth kinds of experiences. Those rolling green hills, surrounded by farm land and home to smalls lakes and clear mountain streams, are crisscrossed by endless miles of super rocky trails.
I get longings that run deep this time of year, wanting to get back and ride under the forest canopy through the rocks. Michaux State Forest, nearer to where I grew up, is my MTB-home in PA. When done riding there for a few hours, my body is worn out, in a good way. Rocks + not-purpose-built-MTB-trails = Good Hurt.
One other random thought: where in the USA is “off the radar” when it comes to mountain biking? I’ll still say it’s Pennsylvania.
Anyway … This post isn’t about much of anything, other than using it to feature FourScore Beer Company in Gettysburg, PA. (Yes, I’m a bit of a Civil War buff…more randomness.) If you’re heading to the battlefields for a tour, take your bike and get to Michaux, too. It’s only 30 minutes away.

Pro tip: in you’re road touring on a bike, or are in desperate need of a last minute place to camp in Gettysburg, stop in at The Lion Potter. Ask about pitching a tent for the night. Be mindful and buy something as a way to say thank you.
