Some 20 years ago, I spent a year living in the high Mojave town of Ridgecrest. While there, I came to appreciate what Mary Austin called The Land of Little Rain. If you’ve not read her book, you might consider it. That landscape is great for turning pedals in the late fall-to-winter-to-early spring months. Check out this new short video on riding The Mojave Road to get an idea of what it’s like:
Back east, Bikepacking.com is embarking on a new project. They are setting up what will be the Eastern Divide Trail. The route will run from Newfoundland to Key West. Scouting/route finding and building/creating the guide is where things are now. You can read all about it here:

Here at MTBeer, now that I’m vaxxed and the masks are coming off, and I’m settled in at the new house and am done grading papers and final exams, road trips are on the horizon. Before all that, though, we’ll get the next round of Q&A from Dave (IMBA) and Ted (STC) on June 1. Fully Rigid and No Dabs are chugging along, monthly columns that tackle issues within our mountain biking community and celebrating MTB lifestyle, whatever that exactly means (!).
On the writing about beer docket, this month will feature the beers/trails guide to San Diego. No doubt, there will be questions/opinions/rants/raves about the beers I choose to go with the trails. Let the debate happen! To get that going, I won’t be featuring any beers from breweries that “sold out,” nor from any that seem to simply be jerks at this point in time; I’m looking at you Stone (stop suing small breweries) and Alpine (word’s getting around town).
Wildflowers are in the mountains. The past 2-3 weeks have been great and the good thing is that it usually lasts into June. Actually, back up. As dry as we are this year, though, it might not last that long.
That’ll do it for a quick update. Hope all’s well where you are. Over and out, far out, get out. Make it a positive weekend.
Cheers!
