That Darn Right Turn Through the Rocks
Wooded Hill and Environs
The weather was perfect. The photos will show you what I mean, but you’ll have to imagine 68 degrees and a slight breeze.
From the Meadows trail head on the Sunrise Highway, I connected over to the old county road and took it all the way to Wooded Hill.
This sign you’ll eventually see on your left would mean you’re going the correct way:
Keep going up the road. Yep, freshly paved forest road is what you’re seeing. Perfect for gravel bikes.
Up on Wooded Hill, I told myself what I’ve told myself about it many times over the years: it is so pretty up here.
Purple is my favorite color:
Steep in some places for a 32x18 gear, I did the hike-a-bike thing. Maybe more than once, possibly three times, a spin out induced one, but anyway, I kept going up knowing that little rock garden was ahead and that I’ve only cleaned it one time.
Over the first part and into the tight right and nope, I was off the bike.
Smiles. Oh well.
Coming into it from the other side, this isn’t the hard part:
It’s tricky after that because of the quick tight right. If you’re offline, you’re gonna bounce.
Again, anyway, was the thought of the day. Maybe next time. I then made the next right and went up and over that boulder roller and then through more rocks, staying clean as I passed through the 2 boulders that kind of squeeze you into a line you don’t want to take, which I did, not getting over to the left after the squeeze.
I goofed it. Got off the bike and got back on and made my way down to the water tower, well, past it and on over to the big swooping downhill off Wooded Hill.
First, though, stop and enjoy more wildflowers:
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was fun.
Back up the country road to drop in on Chico and then more …
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not as long though.
I said hi to my tree friend.
Then I wandered around the meadow before going back up to my car and then home.
Summer’s here, though it’s still spring. Get out and about and pedal, enjoying the trail as you go. Cheers, y’all!
