...and there have been ongoing conversations with USFS region 5 rec staff, planners and fire about how to make all departments understand and pay attention to trails and recreation infrastructure even in a fire emergency situation. It is an evolving discussion but there are some champions.
Yep, I know there are people, like yourself, doing great and difficult work. Still, as you know, there are people we still need to reach and some of them hold a considerable amount of power.
CAMTB has been involved for some time with the California Wildfire Taskforce - as one of the few, if not only representative for recreation in the room. Their april meeting was here in San Diego County. You can read more here: https://wildfiretaskforce.org/
Your points regarding preparedness and awareness for MTBers are all terrific and you should write them up and submit to michael@camtb.org for consideration as a awareness campaign.
I also recommend the app Watch Duty for fire reports - easier to navigate than Inciweb.
CAMTB also is meeting with tribal partners and recently visited the Washoe near Woodfords, CA to hear about their youth conservation program and how we might get them involved in local trail and conservation work. Tribal members attended the California Trails and Greenways conference in Olympic valley as guests of CAMTB.
This is all outstanding! Thanks, Susie. CAMTB needs more press on what they are doing, it seems. I went to their website before writing what I wrote, and I didn't see any of that under their "news" and "advocacy" tabs. Maybe it's there somewhere/buried amidst it all???
I bought an InReach Mini. Garmin has most of their satellite trackers on sale until 6/17, I think.
Thanks for sharing the tip, Thomas!
