Hi James. I love Anza Borrego and have been wanting to take my fat bike out there for a ride. I checked this trail out (Pinyon Mountain Rode) and it says it 17 miles in one direction with about 2500 feet of elevation gain. Did you ride it in both directions and if so, how long did it take you? Loved the story, keep up the good work.

Michael,

When you get to what feels like the end of the road, where the big drop off is, that's where I typically turn around when on a day outing. However, when you turn around there, only a couple hundred feet back on your left, you'll see a rocky side road going up. You can continue on it and it will eventually take you all the way to Fish Creek Wash. I'm guessing that would be the 17 miles. That uphill is then followed by a steep downhill, and then you can go on from there, with other side roads out there.

For an out and back, past the squeeze and to the drop off, and then back through to S2, I'd say plan for at least 3 hours to enjoy it. That would give you time to session the squeeze, if you want, scramble around at the drop off, stop/eat/hydrate/chill in the desert, take a few side roads to some cool canyons.

Hope this helps!

James

I goofed with a few typos and didn't have enough coffee in me, hence "BLM" in the original post, which is inaccurate.
