Ha, exactly! What's old is new again! Can't say I dig riding gravel though. At least not on purpose. As a means to an end for me (connecting sections of dope singletrack).

Gravel between singletrack is how I learned to mountain bike. It was a welcomed respite from the PA rocks!

I think sports/hobbies etc have their ups and downs.

Remember when bmx and skate boards were huge?

Then it slowly got less and less popular... Never totally went away though

MTB definitely had too many people during the lockdown lol. Couldn't buy parts or bikes. And it stayed messed up for quite a while, unfortunately a lot of smaller bike co's closed up shop after that fiasco.

I wish people would go play more golf or volleyball. Less chance of busy trails ;)

Dude, skateboards are still huge here in San Diego! lol! Maybe mountain biking is the new golf, which I think people started saying about 20 years ago. Pickle ball, now, maybe?!
